Buzios . (Beach Resort, Surfing, Diving)

Buzios and the Lakes Region - being the most popular destination in the summer, this region receives thousands of cariocas and tourists. The cosiest place is Buzios, home of 23 beaches, young people, good restaurantes and a lively nightlife. Arraial do Cabo is smaller, great for diving spots and relaxation in its clear water.

Ilha Grande . (Nature, Surfing, Diving, Trekking)

Heading west out of Rio the road winds along the Green Coast passing several bays and islands. The largest of them, Ilha Grande, has beautiful beaches, no cars, an old prison, rivers, waterfalls, rainforest and many trails criss-crossing the island. Ferry connections to the island may be taken from Mangaratiba or Angra.

Parati . (19th century Town, Boat trips)

Further down the Green Coast, Parati, an ancient gold mining and coffee port is the state's best example of an old colonial town. It's cobblestone streets and old houses are home of art studios, bars, pousadas. Try the Parati cachaca

Petropolis . (Imperial Town, Museums)

An Imperial town where Dom Pedro ll (king) used to spend the summer with his family and where Santos Dumont (airplane inventor) built an ingenious home wich he lived. Visit the historical city centre on foot, the interisting Imperial Museum, the Imperial Catedral and Santos Dumont house.

Maua . (Mountains, Rafting, Waterfalls)

Maua, an area of mountain fresh air and waterfalls, is half way between Rio and Sao Paulo. Just down Maua, Penedo is a center os finnish colonies and has nice pousadas and restaurants.

Saquarema . (Surfing City)

A former hippye town in the 70's, is the brazilian home of surf.
